Five-time defending champions Mumbai Indians are set to make a major captaincy change for the
upcoming IPL 2027 season. According to media reports, the Mumbai Indians are preparing to reinstate Rohit Sharma as the team's new captain. This decision comes as no surprise, given the franchise's recent reshuffle of its entire coaching staff.

The franchise has made a major change in the coaching department, appointing Kieron Pollard as the new head coach. He has been joined by former players Robin Uthappa as batting coach, Mitchell McClenaghan as bowling coach, T. Dilip as fielding coach, and Dhawal Kulkarni as development bowling coach.

Tilak Verma had suggested it, but Rohit agreed on the franchise's request.
Last season, under Hardik Pandya's captaincy, after losing 10 out of 14 matches and finishing at the 9th position, the franchise had decided to change the leadership. Before going on the New Zealand tour, several rounds of discussions were held with Rohit Sharma regarding the captaincy. Important advice was also taken from Rohit during the appointment of new coaches. During the discussion, Rohit Sharma had initially suggested handing over the captaincy to young batsman Tilak Verma, so that the team could be prepared for the future. However, after a special request from the franchise, Rohit Sharma has once again agreed to take over the captaincy of Mumbai Indians.

All eyes are on Hardik Pandya's trade or playing, decision changed after fans' protest
Mumbai Indians' performance under the captaincy of Hardik Pandya, who was traded from Gujarat Titans, was very disappointing and fans protested against him a lot at Wankhede Stadium. Now after stepping down from captaincy, all eyes are on Hardik Pandya's future. There are speculations about Hardik Pandya being traded to some other franchise before the season. However, if the trade deal is not finalized, Hardik Pandya has agreed to play as a player under Rohit Sharma's captaincy.
