Chhattisgarh records largest single-cycle improvement in the history of groundwater resource assessment

There were 9 critical development blocks in 2020 and 5 in 2025, the number became zero in the year 2026.

Groundwater exploitation also declined for the first time, with annual groundwater recharge reaching an all-time high of 14.65 BCM.

Raipur, September 2026/ Chhattisgarh has achieved a historic milestone in the field of water conservation and groundwater management. Now, not a single development block in the state is in the 'critical' category for groundwater exploitation. This important fact has come to light in the Groundwater Resources Assessment-2026. In the year 2020, nine development blocks of the state were in the critical category, and even in the year 2025, five development blocks remained in this category. In the year 2026 assessment, all five development blocks have come out of the critical category.

Furthermore, in this assessment cycle, improvements have been recorded in the groundwater category of 12 development blocks of the state, while the situation has not deteriorated in a single development block. This is Chhattisgarh's largest single-cycle improvement since the start of block-wise groundwater assessment. The number of protected development blocks in the state has now increased to 127.

Groundwater Resources Assessment-2026, jointly prepared by the Central Ground Water Board and the State Groundwater Survey Board, has been approved by the State Level Groundwater Assessment and Management Committee.

The Chief Minister congratulated the people of the state on this historic achievement and expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He said that Prime Minister Modi's call for "Jal Shakti Se Jan Shakti" and his launch of the "Jal Sanchay Jan Bhagidari" campaign have given new direction and breadth to water conservation efforts in the state. With the participation of various government departments, the district administration, farmers, and ordinary citizens, water conservation efforts have now become a widespread public movement.

Public participation made the seemingly impossible goal possible: Chief Minister Shri Sai

Chief Minister Shri Sai said that the Jal Sanchay Jan Bhagidari Abhiyan (Water Conservation and Public Participation) launched by Prime Minister Shri Modi provided a strong foundation for the entire government machinery to work towards a common goal. When the government's efforts to conserve water were combined with the participation of farmers and citizens, the result was this historic improvement in groundwater levels.

Groundwater recharge at a historic high of 14.65 BCM

According to the Groundwater Resources Assessment 2026, annual groundwater recharge in the state has increased to 14.65 billion cubic meters (BCM), the highest level ever. In 2017, the state's annual groundwater recharge was 11.57 BCM.

The widespread construction and revival of water conservation structures is having a direct impact on groundwater recharge. Compared to 2020, groundwater recharge from ponds and puddles has increased by 266.9 percent and recharge from other water conservation structures has increased by 202.8 percent.

Social and political organizations gave important suggestions

Raipur, September 2026/ The UCC Committee, constituted by the state government with the aim of making the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) practical, inclusive, and useful for the people in Chhattisgarh, has begun public consultations. There was an in-depth discussion on many important aspects ranging from traditional social beliefs to modern legal reforms. Important suggestions were given both in favor and against the UCC. Representatives of various social and political organizations including all tribal communities, Buddhists, Jains, Muslims, Christians, Sahu, Kalar, Lodhi, Yadav, Christian community, Patel, Gadaria community and Sen community, President God community, social workers, Uraav community, officials of Maa Bamleshwari Trust Committee of Rajnandgaon, Kabirdham, Khairagarh-Chhuikhadan-Gandai and Mohla-Manpur-Ambagarh Chowki districts participated in the meeting and presented their suggestions before the committee.

Various social organizations have suggested that under the Uniform Civil Code (UCC), there should be uniform laws for all citizens without any discrimination on the basis of religion, caste or gender in matters like marriage, divorce, child adoption and property inheritance.

In the meeting held at Vishram Bhawan in Nava Raipur, he instructed the Corporation Commissioners and Chief Municipal Officers to work responsibly along with accelerating the development of cities, cleanliness, revenue collection, implementation of schemes and construction works. He said that the urban body is not only an institution for spending the budget, but is also an institution for making plans for the future of the city, providing public facilities and welfare of the citizens. Principal Secretary of Urban Administration and Development Department Mr. Sonmani Bora and Director Mr. Nileshkumar Kshirsagar also attended the review meeting.

Deputy Chief Minister Mr. Saw said in the meeting that officials should work actively to ensure that urban development work and the benefits of state and central government schemes reach people on time. The benefits of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana and PM Svanidhi schemes should be extended to as many needy people as possible. To increase the income of municipal bodies, he directed that property surveys be conducted to identify new properties and that online payment facilities be developed in as many municipal bodies as possible for property tax collection. He asked municipal engineers to ensure speed and quality in construction work and to strictly inspect ongoing projects. He directed them to develop a methodology for regular review of revenue collection, construction work, cleanliness, and implementation of schemes on different days of the week.

The Deputy Chief Minister directed immediate action as soon as illegal encroachments and encroachments are detected. He said that in the absence of effective action against illegal construction, the civic body faces additional burden in the future regarding roads, water, electricity and other facilities. Chief Minister Shri Sai said that women are given the highest respect in our culture. Our scriptures say, "Yatra naryastu pujyante ramante tatra devataah." Teej Tihar is a festival of sacrifice, penance, and dedication of mothers and sisters to their families. On this day, women observe fasts, praying for the happiness and prosperity of their families and the long life of their husbands. They worship Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati, listen to stories, and hold night vigils.

He said that India is a land of festivals, and these festivals hold special significance in Chhattisgarh's culture. Many of our festivals, including Ekadashi and Karma Tihar, carry social and cultural messages. These traditions are a priceless legacy from our ancestors. It is our responsibility to preserve and promote them so that future generations understand the importance of their culture and traditions and remain connected to them.

Chief Minister Shri Sai said that the state government is continuously working to bring prosperity to the villages, the poor, farmers, and mothers and sisters. After the government was formed, 18 lakh Prime Minister's houses were approved in the very first cabinet meeting. Over 11 lakh houses have been built in the last two years, and approximately 1600 houses are being constructed every day. He said that Chhattisgarh is an agricultural state. Farmers are being purchased 21 quintals of paddy per acre at the rate of Rs 3100 per quintal.

The Chief Minister stated that for the economic empowerment of mothers and sisters, a monthly assistance of one thousand rupees is being provided through the Mahtari Vandan Yojana, and 31 installments have been paid so far. He said that this amount has become an important source of economic support for village women. Women are using this money to start small businesses like grocery and vegetable shops, purchase sewing machines, and save for their daughters' future under the Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana.

Chief Minister Shri Sai said that for a long time, Naxalism was a major obstacle to Chhattisgarh's development. Today, Chhattisgarh is Naxal-free due to the effective strategy developed under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah, and the indomitable courage of our security forces. He informed that the central government has approved separate housing for 15,000 surrendered Naxalites, so that they can join the mainstream of society and begin a new life of dignity.

 Kondagaon. Security forces have achieved a major success during a search operation in Kondagaon, Chhattisgarh. A Naxalite dump was discovered in the forests of the Pushpal area. During the operation, the soldiers recovered pistols, gunpowder, wire, walkie-talkies, and other materials. 

Although Naxalism has been eradicated in Chhattisgarh, weapons hidden by Naxalites remain underground. Security forces are continuing their operations to recover them. Meanwhile, on Sunday, soldiers recovered a Naxalite dump during an operation in the dense forest of the Pushpal area.

According to reports, a large cache of explosive material has been recovered from a Naxalite dump. With the help of the BDS, all the material was safely removed from the dump. Pistols, approximately six walkie-talkies, wire used for bomb-making, and a large quantity of gunpowder were recovered. Police will soon release details of this operation.

At present, all the soldiers have returned safely to the camp after the operation.

If any practical problems or obstacles arise during its implementation, they will be resolved promptly, keeping in mind the bright future of the youth and their overall development.

Demonstrating this sensitivity, the government has made the historic decision that students who were unable to enroll in the fifth semester due to failing one or two papers in the first or second semester will now be granted provisional admission to the fifth semester. In the best interests of students, necessary amendments will be made to the relevant ordinance in due course. The government wishes all the youth of the state a bright future.

Korba. Three out of all the seven units of NTPC power plant locatedin Korba , Chhattisgarh,which were shut down after a technical power failure on Friday evening , have been restarted after about 24 hours. Two 500 MW and one 200 MW units were successfully restored on Saturday evening. At the same time, work is underway to restart the remaining three units sequentially as per the prescribed safety and operational procedures. The total installed capacity of NTPC's Korba plant is about 2600 MW. This includes four 500 MW and three 200 MW units.

According to NTPC officials, all seven units of the public sector plant in the Dari area suddenly tripped after an electrical fault at around 6 p.m. Friday. This resulted in a complete halt in power generation at the plant. NTPC Public Relations Officer Ushma Ghosh said that by 6 p.m. Saturday, three units were successfully restarted.

These include two 500 MW units and one 200 MW unit. He said that overhauling work has already been underway on one 500 MW unit since August 25th. Meanwhile, the remaining three units are being restored in a phased manner, adhering to prescribed safety and operational standards. According to officials, the actual cause of the power supply disruption at the plant is currently unclear. The cause of the technical fault is being investigated.

In the journey towards developed India@2047, Chhattisgarh will establish its identity among the leading states of the country. The government is working in a planned manner to convert the state's natural wealth, youth power and immense potential for development into public welfare and economic prosperity. Chief Minister Vishnudev Sai said this while expressing his views in the 'L.T. Exchange' program 'Naxal-free, developed Chhattisgarh@2047' organized by news channel Live Times at a private hotel on VIP Road in the capital Raipur today.

Chief Minister Sai discussed in detail various topics ranging from the decisive campaign against Naxalism to the development of Bastar, farmer welfare, women empowerment, housing, investment, good governance, digital governance and artificial intelligence.

Chief Minister Sai said that Chhattisgarh was once discussed throughout the country and the world primarily for the problem of Naxalism, but today this picture has rapidly changed. Decisive success against Naxalism, along with new development possibilities, has brought about a positive shift in perceptions of Chhattisgarh. Chhattisgarh's achievement of the top spot in the country in the field of water conservation is a significant achievement of this changing Chhattisgarh.

Chief Minister Sai said that he has witnessed and heard about the Naxalite problem since the beginning of his political career. His home district, Surguja, was also once affected by Naxalism, and numerous incidents of Naxalite violence occurred there. During
the tenure of former Chief Minister Dr. Raman Singh, success was achieved in freeing Surguja from Naxalism.

The Chief Minister said that after the formation of the state government in 2023, Union Home Minister Amit Shah held an important meeting on Naxalism in January 2024. At that time, approximately 75 percent of the remaining Naxalism in the country was concentrated in Chhattisgarh, while the remaining approximately one-quarter was concentrated in five to six other states.

He said that after the formation of the double-engine government at the center and state, a decisive campaign against Naxalism was launched under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah, with a new strategy and better coordination. Joint security efforts were strengthened, and our security forces displayed indomitable courage and bravery. The Chief Minister said that the success achieved today is due to the courage, dedication, and sacrifice of our soldiers, which Chhattisgarh will always remember.

Along with the fight against Naxalism, development was also made an integral part of the strategy.
Chief Minister Sai said that the government's strategy was clear from the beginning that Naxalism would be resolved not only through security operations, but also through development and public trust. The people of Bastar were deprived of development for nearly four decades due to Naxalism. Naxalites did not want education, health, roads, electricity, water and governance schemes to reach the interior areas.

With this vision in mind, the government launched the "Niyad Nellanar" scheme. With the establishment of the security camps, various government schemes and services, including roads, rations, health care, and education, were rapidly delivered to the surrounding villages. For the first time, ration cards were issued to many people in remote areas. The Chief Minister noted that previously, many villagers would spend up to five days traveling to and from their homes to receive rations. Now, the government is reaching their doorsteps.

Chief Minister Sai stated that the government's goal is to establish Bastar as one of the most developed tribal regions in the country
. Communication and connectivity facilities are being rapidly expanded in Bastar. Schools closed due to Naxalite violence have reopened, rekindling the spirit of education in remote areas.

Raipur. The pace of monsoon activity has slowed down in Chhattisgarh. Due to the weakening of the rain-generating weather system, the rain-bearing area in the state is continuously getting limited. In the last 24 hours, light to moderate rain was recorded in some areas, while only clouds remained at many places. According to the Meteorological Department, the seasonal sub-divisional rainfall in the state has been about 3 percent less than normal. On Sunday, light to moderate rain is likely in some parts including Raipur. During this time, there may be drizzle along with thunder and lightning at some places.

One centimeter of rain was recorded at three centers. In the last 24 hours, one centimeter of rain was recorded at Lormi in Mungeli, Darima in Surguja and Kumarda in Rajnandgaon. Many other areas remained cloudy, but there was not enough rain. Talking about the temperature, the maximum temperature was recorded at 31.2 degrees Celsius in Jagdalpur, while the minimum temperature was 21.6 degrees Celsius in Pendra Road. On Sunday, the maximum temperature is expected to be around 31 and the minimum temperature around 24 degrees Celsius.

Due to local influence, there are chances of cloud cover and drizzle. According to weather experts, widespread rain has stopped for the time being due to weakening of the system affecting the state. However, due to local weather influence, clouds may remain in many areas including Raipur and light rain may occur at some places. A low pressure area is formed over north-west Madhya Pradesh and adjoining south-west Uttar Pradesh, along with which cyclonic circulation is also active. This system may move towards east-north-east direction in the next two days.

A new system is expected from the Bay of Bengal. Weather experts say that for widespread rainfall to return to the state, the formation of a new, strong weather system in the Bay of Bengal will be necessary. Currently, there is no effective system capable of intensifying monsoon activity across Chhattisgarh. Consequently, rainfall is likely to remain limited to a few areas in the coming days.

Raipur. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) organization in Chhattisgarh has suffered a major setback. State executive president Uttam Jaiswal has resigned from his post. He has sent his resignation to national convener Arvind Kejriwal and the Chhattisgarh in-charge.

In his resignation, Uttam Jaiswal raised questions about the party's current functioning. He stated that he had worked tirelessly to strengthen the organization from the village to the state level, but now he sees his objectives within the party as unfulfillable

He also alleged that long-time and dedicated party workers were neglected and insulted during the 2023 assembly elections. Jaiswal said that even after the elections, the party's functioning did not change as expected.

He also said that despite holding an important post like the State Executive President, the party does not have a clear roadmap for Chhattisgarh.
