Dr. Raman Singh's big bet... 'Vision 2047' to be presented in the winter session; will it change the fate of Chhattisgarh?

RAIPUR: The winter session of the Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly is set to begin on December 14th, and this time the session will begin with a new experiment. Assembly Speaker Dr. Raman Singh stated that on the first day of the Chhattisgarh Winter Session, a presentation of "Vision 2047" will take place. Throughout the day, all members will discuss the direction Chhattisgarh should take by 2047 and how the state's development is envisioned. This is being seen as a blueprint for a development strategy for the next 25 years

Another major focus of the session will be the stringent anti-conversion bill drafted by the state government . Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai's government is introducing this important bill in response to rising complaints of forced and inducement-based conversions in the state. The proposed law replaces the existing Chhattisgarh Freedom of Religion Act, 1968, which provided for a punishment of only one year and a fine of five thousand rupees for forced conversions.

The new bill adds 17 key provisions, including a serious crime for religious conversions carried out through inducement, fraud, coercion, or any other form of force. Before drafting this law, the government studied the religious freedom laws of nine states, including Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh.

Cases of alleged allurement-based Christian conversions in tribal areas like Bastar, Jashpur, and Raigarh have often sparked tensions and factional conflict. The government believes the new law will play a key role in preventing such disputes and strengthening law and order
