Monsoon 2026: Monsoon to enter Kerala in next 20 hours, heavy rains expected in coastal areas from June 4

New Delhi. The southwest monsoon is expected to arrive in Kerala within the next 20 to 24 hours. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that the monsoon will reach Kerala by June 4. This would be a delay of about three days compared to the normal date.

Monsoon 2026: System active in Bay of Bengal

According to the Meteorological Department, the monsoon is advancing rapidly due to favorable weather conditions in the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in Kerala and other coastal areas from June 4th.

Monsoon 2026: Heavy rain alert for seven days

The IMD has issued an alert for very heavy rainfall in Kerala for the next seven days. Heavy rainfall is also expected in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Lakshadweep and several parts of South India.

Monsoon 2026: The Meteorological Department says that with the advancement of monsoon, the weather pattern will change in most parts of South India and rainfall activities will increase.

Monsoon 2026: Thunderstorm and strong wind warning issued in several states

South India may receive light to moderate rain with thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds over North Interior Karnataka, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam and Telangana from June 3 to 5.

Rainfall will also be observed at many locations in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Kerala, Mahe, and Lakshadweep. According to the Meteorological Department, heavy to very heavy rainfall is possible at many locations in Kerala and Mahe between June 3 and 9.
