Project Management Unit to be set up in Chhattisgarh for development in technical textiles sector

Raipur. A project management unit will be established in Chhattisgarh to effectively implement the National Technical Textiles Mission (NTTM) and promote research, innovation, industry, and skill development in the technical textiles sector. Additionally, coordination between technical educational institutions and industry will be enhanced to connect students with industry-based training.

A high-level review meeting of the National Technical Textiles Mission was held on Wednesday at Mahanadi Bhawan, Nava Raipur, chaired by the Chief Secretary. During the meeting, the Chief Secretary directed the organization of a technical textiles conference and conclave, bringing together representatives of the state's technical educational institutions and industry.

He said the conference should discuss the uses of technical textiles in various fields, the schemes available under the National Technical Textiles Mission, and the needs of industries. Direct coordination between technical educational institutions and industries will be established to provide students with training tailored to industrial needs. In the initial phase, efforts will be made to provide industry-based training to 10 students from each technical institutioThis will provide students with hands-on experience in the actual industrial use of technical textiles, while also providing trained human resources to industries. The meeting also discussed the possibility of developing industrial training institutes in areas with handloom and textile activities into textile training centers in a phased manner. In the first phase, work will be done to connect institutes in Korba, Raigarh, Janjgir-Champa, and Bilaspur districts with local textile industries.

State universities and technical institutions will be encouraged to develop application-based research, product development, testing, innovation, and pilot projects related to technical textiles. Special emphasis will be placed on developing technological solutions tailored to the state's needs in agriculture, infrastructure, water management, health, safety, environment, packaging, and rural livelihoods.

A Project Management Unit will be established to implement the Mission's plans, coordinate between various departments and institutions, and regularly monitor projects. This unit will receive project proposals from technical institutions and industries, prepare them in accordance with the Mission's guidelines, submit them to the Central Government for approval, and assist in the implementation of approved projects. Until the unit is formed, a nodal officer will be appointed in the Village Industries Department for state-level coordination.

Senior officials and experts from the Department of Industries, Directorate of Technical Education, Indira Gandhi Agricultural University, Chhattisgarh Swami Vivekananda Technical University, Indian Institute of Technology Bhilai, National Institute of Technology Raipur, National Institute of Fashion Technology Raipur and Handloom Department were present in the meIndi.
