Kopra reservoir becomes Chhattisgarh's first Ramsar site

Raipur.  Kopra Reservoir of Bilaspur district has now become the first Ramsar site of Chhattisgarh. After its announcement, there is an atmosphere of happiness in the entire state. This status is given to those wetlands which are considered very important at the global level for biodiversity, water conservation and environmental significance. Forest and Climate Change Minister Kedar Kashyap, while congratulating the people of the state on this achievement, said that this success of Kopra Reservoir is a matter of pride for Chhattisgarh. He said that the unique ecology of the reservoir, the diversity of local and migratory birds and the richness of the aquatic ecosystem have made it worthy of Ramsar recognition.

The Forest Minister also thanked the State Wetland Authority, environmentalists, Forest Department officials, researchers, and local communities. He stated that this achievement was made possible by everyone's combined efforts and commitment to conservation. Minister Kashyap stated that this achievement, under the leadership of Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai, is an important step towards achieving the goal of securing Ramsar Site status for 20 wetlands by 2030 under the Chhattisgarh Anjor Vision 2047. He stated that the declaration of Kopra Reservoir as a Ramsar Site will increase awareness about wetland conservation in the state and develop new opportunities for eco-tourism. This will provide employment to local communities and promote sustainable development.
Forest Minister Kedar Kashyap appealed to all citizens to play an active role in protecting and enhancing this important natural heritage. He stated that wetland conservation is our responsibility and a commitment to leaving a strong natural legacy for future generations.
