Double Engine Government committed to respect and empowerment of women power – Chief Minister Vishnudev Sai
Raipur: In the special session of Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly, Chief Minister Shri Vishnudev Sai, while presenting a resolution in support of Nari Shakti Vandan Act, said that ensuring one-third reservation for women in Parliament and all Legislative Assemblies is a very important step for their respect, overall development and empowerment. He said that this initiative will not only strengthen the participation of women in democratic institutions, but will also provide a new energy towards equal opportunities and balanced representation in the society. The Chief Minister expressed confidence that such efforts will give half of the country's population a strong role in the decision-making process and development will become more inclusive and effective.
Chief Minister Shri Vishnudev Sai said that this sacred land of Chhattisgarh is the land of Mother Shabari, Mother Danteshwari, and Mother Mahamaya, where women have always been revered as Shakti. He said that in Indian culture, women are not only objects of respect, but also the foundation of creation and power. The Shakti we worship during Navratri is the same Shakti present in society in the form of the mother.
Chief Minister Shri Sai said that the saying "Ya Devi Sarvabhuteshu Matri-rupen Samsthita..." mentioned in our scriptures is not just a verse, but the core element of Indian philosophy of life. He said that on the land of Chhattisgarh, eminent personalities like Bhakt Mata Karma, Teejan Bai, Usha Barle have taken the state's identity to the national and international level with their talent and dedication. He also described the contributions of brave women like Rani Lakshmi Bai, Rani Durgavati and Avanti Bai as a source of inspiration. In the modern era, women like Kalpana Chawla and Sunita Williams have enhanced the country's pride on the global level.
Chief Minister Shri Sai stated that expanding women's participation and representation in the democratic system is essential for the overall development of society. He added that given the expanding scope of public representatives and the growing population, it is important to periodically consider systemic reforms and balances, making governance more effective and responsive to public concerns.
He said that in recent years, many important initiatives have been taken to improve the dignity, health, safety, and economic empowerment of women in the country. Through schemes in areas such as sanitation, health, financial inclusion, education, and security, positive changes have been seen in the quality of life of women. These efforts have played a vital role in strengthening women's dignity and self-reliance.
The Chief Minister stated that women's empowerment is being given special priority in Chhattisgarh. The year 2026 is being celebrated as the "Mahatari Gaurav Varsh," which aims to honor the contributions of women and encourage their all-round development. He explained that various schemes are providing financial assistance, self-employment opportunities, and social security to women.
He said that special efforts are being made to extend the benefits of schemes to women, even in remote and challenging areas. This has not only improved their quality of life but also brought them more firmly into the mainstream of society.
The Chief Minister said that work is being done to empower women through schemes related to housing, drinking water, livelihoods, and self-employment. A large number of women are becoming economically empowered through self-help groups and other activities, which
is a sign of positive change in society.
He said that the active participation of women in Panchayati Raj institutions is a powerful example of strengthening democracy. A large number of women are taking leadership positions as public representatives and playing a vital role in local development.
The Chief Minister said that positive initiatives are being taken at various levels to empower women in the family and society, so that they can play a more effective role in the decision-making process.
Concluding his address, Chief Minister Shri Sai stated that empowerment of women is not merely a matter of policy, but the foundation of society's overall development. He called on all sections of society to work together and with sensitivity in this direction, so that an equitable, empowered, and prosperous society can be built.
