State level advice for advanced cultivation of maize: Balanced fertilizer and correct distance will give higher production….
Raipur: In order to help Chhattisgarh farmers get maximum yield from maize crop and to connect them with modern agricultural techniques, a state level agricultural directory has been issued by Indira Gandhi Agricultural University, Raipur. Keeping in view the current weather of the state, the scientists of the university have advised the farmers to complete the sowing work at the right time and in a scientific manner. Keeping in view the favourable weather as per the weather forecast, agricultural experts have advised the farmers to immediately start direct sowing and row sowing of maize in the fields.
Sharing advanced and prosperous farming techniques, scientists have said that for a bountiful maize crop, it is most appropriate to keep the seed rate of hybrid varieties at 15 to 20 kg per hectare and for combined/complex varieties at 20 to 25 kg per hectare. For better crop management, sowing should always be done in rows (lines), in which generally the distance between rows should be 60 to 75 cm and the distance between plants should be 20 to 25 cm. Along with this, for special medium and late ripening varieties, scientists have instructed to sow at a distance of 75x25 cm (row to row and plant to plant).
Apart from this, for the health of the soil and proper nutrition of the plants and better production, the university has recommended balanced fertilizer quantity. According to scientists, farmers should use fertilizer only at the prescribed rate of 80 to 120 kg nitrogen, 50 to 75 kg phosphorous and 30 to 50 kg potash per hectare. With the message of 'Timely and correct sowing, better production is our responsibility', Indira Gandhi Agricultural University has appealed to all the farmers of the state to compulsorily adopt this scientific guidance and weather-based advice, so that agricultural costs are reduced, production is increased and their economic condition can be strengthened.
