Raipur, September 2026/ In the digital age, with the increasing use of the internet and online services, the threat of cybercrime has also increased rapidly. Awareness and vigilance are essential to stay safe from these threats. This was stated by Shri Ramvichar Netam, Minister for Agriculture Development, Farmers Welfare and Tribal Affairs, Government of Chhattisgarh. He was addressing a one-day workshop as the chief guest at the Indira Gandhi Agricultural University under the "Cyber ​​Awareness Campaign" organized by the Chhattisgarh Police. Dr. Girish Chandel, Vice Chancellor of Indira Gandhi Agricultural University, was the special guest, and Dr. Sanjeev Shukla, Raipur Police Commissioner, was the chairman.

Special campaign running from 15th August to 2nd October

To effectively curb the growing cybercrime in the state, Chhattisgarh Police is running a six-week "Cyber ​​Awareness Campaign" from August 15th to October 2nd, 2026. Its objective is to raise awareness among students, youth, women, senior citizens, and bank account holders about ways to protect themselves from online fraud.

Cybercrime increased 12 times in four years

Presiding over the workshop, Police Commissioner Dr. Sanjeev Shukla shared worrying statistics. He stated that in the past four years, cybercrimes within the country have increased 12-fold and the amount of fraudulent activities has increased 40-fold. Currently, approximately ₹61 crore worth of cyber fraud is occurring daily in the country. Cybercriminals are constantly employing new tactics, requiring people to be extremely cautious.

Don't share personal information, including your OTP, bank account details, passwords, or ATM PINs, with anyone you don't know. Avoid clicking on any suspicious or unknown links. Don't believe fake job offers, investment schemes, digital arrests, phishing calls, or solicitations and threats on social media.

In case of fraud, contact 1930 immediately.

Raipur police officials have appealed that if anyone becomes a victim of cybercrime or financial fraud, they should immediately call the national cybercrime helpline number 1930 or register their complaint on the portal www.cybercrime.gov.in. The workshop was attended by the university's registrar, Dr. Kapil Dev Deepak, the dean of the Agricultural College, Raipur, directors of various departments, professors, and a large number of students.
