CG Winter Session: The winter session of the Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly began on December 14th and will continue until December 19th, 2025. During the CG Winter Session, Assembly Speaker Raman Singh accepted an adjournment motion regarding paddy procurement. He stated that this issue directly concerns the public and farmers, and therefore, it is important to discuss it.

Former Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel also attacked the government. He said that the government simply doesn't want to buy paddy. Raigarh: An important judicial decision has been issued. The District Court has convicted the accused in the Raigarh rape case and sentenced him to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment. The case is from the Kotra Road police station area, where a minor girl was raped after being lured into marriage.

According to reports, Vijay Jangde, alias Bijju (24), a resident of Litaipali village, lured a 16-year-old girl from her home in January 2025, promising to marry her. The victim's father filed a report at the Kotra Road police station on the morning of January 27, 2025, alleging that his daughter had not returned home after school. When a search in the neighborhood and among relatives failed to yield any clues, suspicions were raised that she had been lured away by an unknown youth.

The police registered a missing person case and began an investigation. During the investigation, they received information that the victim was in the village of Litaipali. Subsequently, on February 5th, the police recovered the minor and arrested the accused, Vijay Jangde. The victim's statement revealed that the accused had repeatedly engaged in physical relations with her under the pretext of marriage.

The accused confessed to his crime during the police investigation. A case was subsequently registered against him under sections 65(1), 87 BNS, and sections 4-6 of the POCSO Act, and he was presented in court. The Raigarh rape case was heard by Additional Sessions Judge Devendra Sahu of the FTSC POCSO Court.

After hearing arguments from both sides, the court sentenced the accused to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of ₹6,000. Failure to pay the fine will result in an additional four months' imprisonment. Additional Public Prosecutor Mohan Singh Thakur successfully argued the case.

The rare winter migratory bird, the Stepped Gull (Larus fuscus barbadensis), has been sighted again at the Ruse Reservoir in Khairagarh after five years. This observation is considered a significant achievement for bird diversity in central India.

This significant discovery was made during a bird walk organized by the Atavi Foundation. According to experts, the Stepped Gull is a rare subspecies of the Lesser Black-backed Gull, which is seen only in select areas of India during winter. Rousay Reservoir is already known for migratory birds like the Common Crane and Eurasian Spoonbill, but the Stepped Gull being spotted further strengthens its ecological importance.

The bird walk, held on December 14th, recorded 51 bird species within just two hours. Another migratory bird, the Sand Martin, was also confirmed during the walk. The program was guided by BNHS-certified field ornithologist Prateek Thakur, while participants included Dr. Dinesh Sinha, Yogendra Sahu, and Somendra Sahu.

Experts identified the Steppe Gull based on characteristics such as a lighter inner primary wing, strong wingbars, second-generation median coverts, light brown wings, a deep, slender bill, and a striped head. The Meteorological Department has issued a warning stating that the minimum temperature in the state may drop by 1 to 2 degrees Celsius over the next three days. The drop in night temperatures is likely to increase the chill. However, there are indications that the cold wave conditions in the state will gradually decrease after December 14th.

The maximum temperature in the capital, Raipur, was recorded at 29.0 degrees Celsius on Sunday, slightly above normal. The minimum temperature was 12.7 degrees Celsius, 1.7 degrees below normal. Humidity was recorded at 85 percent in the morning, but dropped to 51 percent by evening. The average wind speed in the city was 2 kilometers per hour, and there was no rainfall in any area.
