Industry Minister's pilot vehicle met with an accident in Raipur; driver was drunk.
occurred late last night in the capital when Industry Minister Lakhan Lal Dewangan's pilot Scorpio vehicle went out of control and hit the divider in front of Khalsa School, right in front of the court premises. The vehicle was badly damaged in the accident. This entire incident took place in the Civil Lines police station area, where the incident occurred around 12:45 am. According to eyewitnesses, there was a commotion at the spot immediately after the accident. People present there saw that the driver of the Scorpio vehicle was in a drunken state and was trying to control himself while staggering. On receiving the information, the Civil Lines police station reached the spot and controlled the situation
The driver told police during questioning that he was heading home after his duty. Meanwhile, an auto driver in front of Khalsa School suddenly tried to overtake the vehicle. This action by the auto driver threw the Scorpio driver off balance and he lost control of the vehicle. The uncontrolled vehicle went straight over the divider and collided with a pole in front. The impact was so severe that the entire front portion of the Scorpio was damaged, leaving the vehicle undriveable.
People present at the scene stated that the vehicle was moving at a high speed, which caused significant damage. The vehicle's number is CG 08 BC 9909, reportedly one of the Industry Minister's pilot vehicles. However, the minister was not in the vehicle at the time of the accident; only the driver was present. Police arrived at the scene and first assessed the driver's condition. After confirming that he was drunk, he underwent a medical examination. According to preliminary information, the driver's alcohol level was found to be well above the permissible limit. Police have seized the vehicle and initiated further legal action. The Civil Lines police station in-charge stated that no civilians were injured in the accident, which is a great relief. A major accident was averted due to the low traffic on the road late at night, otherwise, given the speed of the vehicle and the severity of the collision, there was a possibility of loss of life.
The police are now investigating the auto driver to determine whether he was negligent. At the same time, administrative questions are being raised as to why the driver of the ministerial-level pilot vehicle was driving drunk after duty, and when will departmental action be taken against him. Currently, the police have registered a case against the driver under sections of the Motor Vehicles Act and drunk driving. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
