A major step towards maximizing production per drop: The Bagiya Samriddhi M-CAD scheme will irrigate 4,933 hectares in 13 villages – Chief Minister Vishnudev Sai

Jashpur will get the opportunity to become a national model of modern pressurized irrigation system.

Raipur: Chief Minister Shri Vishnudev Sai today inaugurated the construction work of the Bagiya Pressurized Lift Irrigation System under the Samriddhi Command Area Development and Water Management Modernization (M-CAD) scheme in his home village Bagiya in Jashpur district. Union Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development Tokhan Sahu and Agriculture Minister Ramvichar Netam, along with public representatives and a large number of villagers were present on the occasion.

Chief Minister Shri Sai stated that the Bagiya Samriddhi M-CAD scheme is not just an irrigation project, but a powerful symbol of the philosophy of "maximum production per drop." He stated that its successful implementation will make Jashpur district a model for the country's modern pressurized irrigation system and provide farmers with a new direction for prosperity.

He stated that under this project, a modern pressurized pipe irrigation network will be developed in place of the traditional canal system. The underground pipeline system will prevent water wastage, increase water use efficiency, and eliminate the problem of land acquisition. This scheme will provide farmers, who have previously relied on rainfall, with sufficient water for irrigation throughout the year.

Chief Minister Shri Sai stated that the Bagiya Samriddhi M-CAD scheme will not only modernize irrigation systems but also advance agriculture in a technology-driven, sustainable, and profitable direction. This project has the potential to establish Jashpur as a model agri-irrigation district at the national level. He added that this initiative will pave the way for our farmers to reach new heights of prosperity, self-reliance, and respect.

It is noteworthy that this project is being implemented through the Bagiya Barrage cum Pressurized Lift Irrigation Scheme on the Maini River in the Bagiya cluster of the Kansabel development block. Under this scheme, irrigation facilities will be provided to approximately 4,933 hectares of area in 13 villages, including Bagiya, Uskuti, Rajoti, Sujibahar, Chongribahar, Bansbahar, Dokra, Sikaria, Patratoli, Gahiradohar, Bihabal, Nariyardand, and Dhudhudand.

Chief Minister Shri Sai said that Chhattisgarh's Bagiya cluster is the only selected project among 34 approved M-CAD projects in 23 states across the country. The Government of India has approved Rs 95.89 crore for this project, while the total cost of the project is approximately Rs 119 crore.

Speaking on the occasion, Union Minister of State Shri Tokhan Sahu said the scheme will pave the way for the region's overall development and provide farmers with a stable income base. Agriculture Minister Shri Ramvichar Netam described it as a "boon for the future" for farmers, saying it will give a new impetus to the rural economy.

Mr. Alok Agarwal, State Nodal Officer for the Samriddhi Yojana, stated that the M-CAD program was launched in April 2025 by the Ministry of Jal Shakti, Government of India, under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He stated that the project will be completed in the next six months, and its operation and maintenance will be handled by the contractor for the first five years, and then by the Water Users' Committee. Active participation of women has also been ensured in this committee.

The project will utilize modern technologies such as solar-based power supply, SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition), and IoT (Internet of Things), enabling controlled and scientific water use. Data-driven management will determine when and how much water is to be supplied to which area. The plan aims to increase water use efficiency, ensure maximum utilization of every drop, increase agricultural production, and achieve sustainable improvements in farmers' incomes. Advanced agricultural practices will also enable farmers to address the risks associated with climate change.
