Mahatari Vandan Yojana provides a new direction, Smt. Prem Bai becomes an example of self-reliance
Raipur: The Mahatari Vandan Yojana, aimed at women's economic empowerment, is becoming a vehicle for positive change in Chhattisgarh. Through this scheme, women in rural areas are becoming self-reliant and strengthening their families' economic well-being. Mrs. Prem Bai Patel, a resident of Bhursidih village in Sakti district's Sakti development block, is an inspiring example.
Mrs. Prem Bai Patel has received her 26th installment of monthly financial assistance under the scheme. This regular support has brought remarkable change to her life. Using the funds, she started a Gupchup (Panipuri) stall, which she operates from village to village. This small business provides her with a regular income, empowering her family financially.
With this income, Mrs. Prem Bai is able to meet the basic needs of her household—such as groceries and other daily necessities. She is also able to save for her children's future. She explains that while she previously faced financial difficulties, her life has now become more stable, her self-confidence has increased, and she has developed a sense of self-reliance.
This scheme was launched by the Chhattisgarh government in March 2024 to fulfill Prime Minister Narendra Modi's promise and promote the overall development of women. Since then, beneficiary women in the state have been regularly provided with a monthly assistance of ₹1,000. A total of ₹16,881 crore has been disbursed under this scheme in 26 installments, directly benefiting millions of women.
Mrs. Prem Bai Patel expressed her gratitude to Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Dev Sai and Women and Child Development Minister Smt. Laxmi Rajwade for the positive changes brought about by this scheme. She said that this scheme has given a new direction to her life and she is now living a self-reliant life with dignity.
